Belinda Watson

Belinda is a teacher at Melbourne Polytechnic in Animal Studies and Earth Sciences. During her time here, she has worked in a range of roles facilitating student learning.

Belinda teaches students how to identify workplace practices that impact on our planet and how small improvements can be made to make change. She has worked closely with a team of dedicated animal studies teachers to introduce the concepts of sustainability to students and develop and deliver online units for the animal studies program. 

Belinda has worked at Melbourne Polytechnic since 1997.  Her interest in online learning started in 2013,  when she and another team member were awarded a professional development grant to develop and deliver online learning content for the animal studies program. Working with the animal studies team has given her great pleasure as it nurtures her love of animals and their relationship with people and our planet. Over this time, student projects have focused on growing food for animals, designing small plantings for species specific animals and examining animal housing to improve environmental outcomes.  All projects aim to improve animal well-being, save money and introduce the concepts of sustainability to animal care and management.  Students become actively engaged with their learning via their connection with nature, animals and people. This approach to learning demonstrates action learning and how small collaborative groups can make a difference to sustainability outcome.  

Belinda holds a Bachelor of Applied Science, Graduate Diploma of Environmental Studies and Vocational Graduate Certificate in Education for Sustainability.
