Mechanical Trade Fitting and Machining Workshop

As an engineering student at Melbourne Polytechnic, you’ll train on top quality, industry-standard equipment in our Mechanical Trade Fitting and Machining Workshop. Learn the latest techniques in turning, machining, grinding, and drilling metal from our experienced, dedicated teachers in a real-life work setting.

Our range of specialist equipment includes manual and computer-operated lathes, machines for horizontal and vertical milling, precision grinding and drilling. You’ll also use equipment for training in fluid power and pneumatic (oil-and-air-driven) systems. Melbourne Polytechnic students in applicable study areas will also have access to a comprehensive tool store, heat treatment and material testing rooms and computer and metrology labs.

Locksmithing workshop

Melbourne Polytechnic’s locksmithing workshop prepares you for day-to-day life as a locksmith with real-world training under the guidance of teachers who are experienced, practicing locksmiths. Hone your skills in fully equipped facilities where you’ll use industry-standard electronic key cutting machines, non-destructive auto-dialers to unlock safes and auto transporters to supply, copy and repair microchipped car keys.
