Glaziers are in high demand in Australia, with employment opportunities predicted to grow by more than 10% in the next five years. If you dream of a practical application for your visual arts skills and creativity in the booming architecture and construction industry, this unique course offers the skills to succeed.

Our Certificate III in Glass and Glazing (Designed Glazing) MSF30422 will teach you the skills and techniques required to become a qualified professional glazier with a strong emphasis on designed glazing. Traditional glazing skills are combined with innovative contemporary techniques to allow for multiple employment pathways. You’ll learn techniques in leadlight and stained glass, kiln-formed glass, sandblasting, copper foiling and applicable glazing techniques. Melbourne Polytechnic has developed this unique course in association with Glaas Inc, a not-for-profit organisation which promotes the use of glass in art, architecture and construction. This association ensures support and opportunities for Melbourne Polytechnic students learning and working in designed glazing throughout Australia.

Graduates of this unique course will have learned the skills and techniques to create the glass of the future, responsive to contemporary architecture and construction needs. This qualification offers multiple pathways into the glazing industry. You may enter the glazing industry as an employee in general or designed glazing, or even become self-employed with your own artistic or design-based glass and glazing practice.

On-campus

Class Schedule
Full time day course: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday over one year.
Part time evening course:Tuesday and Thursday nights 6-9.30pm over two years.
Part time evening course: 2 nights a week over two years — specific weeknights to be determined in 2024.

Fees displayed are effective for new applications received on or after 1st of November. Tuition fees do not include textbooks, course materials or overseas student health insurance and visa fees.
After initial deposit, international students are able to pay tuition fees in installments, four times per year.

Concession fees are charged at 20 per cent of the standard fees for enrolments in Certificate I to IV courses. To be eligible students must meet Skills First eligibility criteria and present a valid:
- Commonwealth Health Care card, or
- Pensioner Concession card, or
- Any dependent spouse or dependent child of one of the above cardholders, or
- Veterans Gold card.
The following groups are eligible for concession fees from Certificate I to Advanced Diploma level:
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students
- Asylum Seekers and victims of human trafficking
Additional expenses
The Student Services and Amenities Fee is charged at forty cents (40 cents) per student contact hour and is capped over a twelve (12) month period, effective from the enrolment date, to:
- $250 for full fee-paying students; and
- $175 for concession-paying students studying Certificate I, II, III, or IV.
Amenities fees are used to improve non-academic services including libraries, counselling services, student support, and recreational activities.
